life story

Nick Koehler, Nacho Average Guy

The Nacho we knew and loved

Nick Koehler was born to Susan and Jose (Che-che) Koehler on February 7th, 1981 as their third and final child. Nick was a true baby of the family.

Nick was always quick with a joke or something funny to say, especially if you were feeling down. Nick had many passions but his biggest passions were for anything outdoors including fishing and hunting which he was so excited to pass along and share with his daughter Layla. He was also a very gifted artist, which he also shared with Layla. For Nick, there was nothing better than a great fishing trip down by the river or his favorite spot on the lake, and following that up with some beer and stories by a campfire. Nick loved to cook and was very creative in the kitchen. He had a great knack for improvising recipes. Nick was a hard worker and put 110% into whatever venture he had going. But his biggest love was for his daughter. Layla was truly his heart. If you knew Nick, you knew that if nothing else.

Unfortunately Nick also suffered from some mental health challenges. With the passing of so many family members he was close to, it made it hard for him to find the strength to move forward. Nick lost his battle with his depression on May 10th, 2025. He was preceded in death by his mom Susan, dad Jose Sr., Grandma and Grandpa McBride, Grandma and Grandpa Koehler, Grandpa George Storms, Uncles Sam and Ronnie McBride, Terry Novak, and Dave Peterson and Great Niece Re'Nya. Nick is survived by his daughter Layla, sister Angelique Koehler (Tim and family) and brother Jose Koehler (Raychel and family), Aunt Felicia Novak whom he lived with, His step-mom Colleen, and step-brothers John, Benji, Shane, and Trapper, along with many aunts and uncles and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held July 12th, 2025 at the Highland Park Pavilion located at 1200 Montreal Ave, St. Paul from 4:00pm - 7:00pm. We will be having a taco themed potluck style dinner. Out of respect for Nick's recent sobriety we ask for all people attending to be sober and alcohol / drug free. Memorials will be put into an account for his daughter Layla. We will be creating an event on Facebook for this celebration. If you are able to make it please let us know so we can plan the food accordingly.
