Ruth E. Blanford, 73, of Binghamton, unexpectedly passed away on May 27, 2025, with her loving family by her side. She was predeceased by her mother, Violet; father, Carlton; brother, Richard Blanford; and her lifelong partner, Frank W. Niles. Ruth is survived by her brother, Ronnie Blanford, and his wife, Julie, of Oxford; daughter, Jennifer Niles, of Binghamton; son, Michael Niles, and his wife, Shannon, of Owego; step-son, Jeff Niles, and his partner, Tanya Seward, of Johnson City; step-son, Richard Niles, and his partner Michele Gatliff, of Endicott; and her grandchildren, Justin, Jacob, Taylor, Kaleb Schrader, and his girlfriend, Sayge Poland, of Whitney Point; Wyatt, Cole, Connor, and Emelia. Ruth was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Neveah Jane and Brantley. Additionally, she is survived by her niece, Tammy Frantellizzi-McCarthy, of Norwich; nephews, Ronnie Blanford, of Oklahoma; David and Molly Blanford; Mickey and Amanda Blanford; and Stephen Blanford, of Binghamton; as well as her cousins, Linda, Patty, and Mike Gillett. Also dearest friends John,Judy and Roxann. Her fur Grandchildrend Sammy&Maxie. And to the many friends made at Woodburn Court.
Ruth graduated from Chenango Valley High School, Class of 1969. She worked for the New York State Division for Youth as a house parent for troubled and delinquent juveniles, specializing in reintegrating these youths from delinquency facilities back into their homes. Ruth also served at the SOS Shelter for battered women. She became a Parent Aid with the Family and Children's Society of Broome County and collaborated with Broome County Social Services as part of an early intervention unit to monitor abused and neglected children. Additionally, she worked as a residential night manager with individuals with mental challenges in a group home setting. Ruth spent three years in California working for Desert Haven Enterprises as a Production Supervisor with mental disabilities in a workforce environment. She also studied hotel and restaurant management and real estate at Ithaca College. Furthermore, she gained experience waitressing at Danny's Diner in Binghamton and the Acropolis Diner in Endicott.
Ruth was a very special individual to all who knew her. She was a ray of sunshine, someone who could brighten your day and take care of you. She had a unique ability to make you feel safe and secure. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening outdoors, soaking up the sun, and traveling to Florida to visit friends and unwind from her busy life in New York. She was the rock of her family, the glue that held everyone together. Her absence has already created a significant void, and she will be deeply missed.
